Work zones play a key role in maintaining and upgrading our city streets, as well as state and interstate highways. Unfortunately, daily changes in traffic patterns, narrowed rights-of-way, and other construction activities often create a combination of factors resulting in crashes, injuries, and fatalities. The City of Tulsa is currently working on 120 waterline breaks due to record-breaking temperatures. Due to this unprecedented event in the history of our water supply and distribution system, the number of waterline breaks and customers letting faucets drip, the City’s water storage tank levels are low which could compromise emergent public safety and healthcare needs. To address storage tank levels, the City of Tulsa will have 35 crews (14 City crews and 21 contract crews) in the field working to address waterline breaks.
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 before it occurs within the Tulsa community, Mayor Bynum is directing the postponement or cancellation of all gatherings of 50 people or more at City of Tulsa properties and facilities, as well as Special Events permitted by the City beginning at 5 p.m. today. The ban will be in place until April 15, when it will be reevaluated. For clarification, this direction does not include school or county led events as they do not fall under the purview of the City of Tulsa. City locations that are included are: BOK Center, City Hall and City facilities, City Parks and Recreation Centers, Convention Center, Gilcrease Museum, Performing Arts Center, Stormwater Detention areas, River Parks and the Tulsa Zoo. Special events that were permitted by the City, which close streets and right of ways are also included.
The City of Tulsa has issued a voluntary boil order for Tulsa water customers who have experienced low water pressure, are seeing discolored water, and those who have recently had water service restored after their water was shutoff for waterline repairs.
During a special employee recognition ceremony at City Hall, Mayor G.T. Bynum presented a Tulsa Blue award to Marshelle Freeman for her outstanding service to Tulsa, and a CityStar award to David Taylor for his work to improve safety culture at the City of Tulsa.
