918 Day (Sept. 18) is almost here and the City of Tulsa has a variety of options for Tulsans to get involved as we celebrate our city’s diversity and growth. The City launched 918 Day in 2018 as part of the Resilient Tulsa Strategy, which calls for increasing social cohesion by facilitating connections and community-building in all corners of the city. This year’s theme is, “Rising Through Resilience.” To celebrate 918 Day, the Mayor’s Office of Resilience and Equity (MORE) will host a variety of activities, many of which are virtual this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tulsa Maintains Class 2 Rating in National Flood Insurance Program

The City of Tulsa has maintained its Class 2 rating in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System, a voluntary program in which communities that go beyond the minimum floodplain management requirements earn flood insurance discounts for residents. The Federal Emergency Management Agency in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security administers the program.

The Public Oversight Committee for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Graves Investigation met virtually on Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m. to receive an update from the physical investigation committee regarding the initial test excavation and additional geophysical research conducted at the Clyde Eddy site within the Oaklawn Cemetery.

Water Distribution Develops Valve Program, Uses Data to Make More Informed Decisions

It’s been one year since Water Distribution implemented its Valve Program, and the City is now in the process of obtaining data on all of the valves in the city – data that tells us what assets are in excellent, good, fair and poor condition so crews can make the most informed decisions regarding the management of Tulsa’s water assets.

Grants Administration Seeking Volunteer Grant Evaluators

Volunteers are needed to assist in the review of HUD grant applications. Applicants will need to participate in one hour of training and then will evaluate approximately three different proposals, requiring 1-2 hours each for evaluation.

Eric Lee Named Next Water and Sewer Department Director

Eric Lee will serve as the next director of the City’s Water and Sewer Department effective immediately. Lee, who has been serving as the Operations Administrative Manager for the Water and Sewer Department, will initially serve concurrently with current director Clayton Edwards until his retirement in February.

City, TEDC Partner to Create Greenwood Entrepreneurship Incubator @ Moton; Tulsa City Council to Vote on Budget Amendment June 2

Today, the City of Tulsa, Tulsa Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) and Tulsa Development Authority (TDA) announced plans to provide $4 million to support the Greenwood Entrepreneurship Incubator @ Moton (GEIM), a new entrepreneurship hub in North Tulsa. The Tulsa City Council is expected to vote on the budget amendment authorizing the expenditure at its regular meeting at 5 p.m. on June 2, 2021.
