The City of Tulsa and area agencies are tracking extreme cold temperatures and the first of two chances for winter weather expected to move through Tulsa early Friday morning.
All City street crews are on standby through the weekend, with a crew of about 100 reporting overnight to treat the roads ahead of the Friday morning commute. While the weather will dictate exact plans, crews will likely apply salt, and should there be enough snow on the roads to plow, the City will use a team of plows to clear the snow. Drivers who see City trucks on the road are asked to drive slowly and keep their distance.
The Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency (TAEMA) is expected to initiate a Level 3 activation tonight, which means its agency partners will be on standby to monitor the weather and make teams available should conditions require additional resources.
Detailed information on the City’s homeless outreach response and warming stations, cold weather safety tips, and additional information from our partner agencies, can be found online.
Refuse & Recycling Updates
Haulers will make every attempt to collect as weather permits. They will first collect refuse, and if the weather remains acceptable, they will then collect recycling. The extreme cold can make collection hazardous, as the helpers ride on the back of the trucks and their safety remains the main concern at this time.
If your refuse or recycling does not get collected, please be patient and haulers will make every attempt to collect when it is safe to do so. Please keep carts at the curb until collections occur.
If the snow or ice begins to build up, the trucks will be pulled off the roadways for safety. Additional updates will be provided as operations warrant.
Bulky Waste Update
Bulky waste employees will make every attempt to collect on time, weather permitting. If your bulky waste is not collected, please be patient as employees will make every attempt to collect throughout the day on Friday. If your bulky waste is not collected on Friday, employees will return to collect as soon as the inclement weather subsides.
If your pick-up is missed, you will not need to call and reschedule another.
