A street widening project on East 81st Street between South Sheridan Road and South Memorial Drive is scheduled to begin July 6, weather permitting. The project also includes concrete pavement replacement at the intersection of 81st Street and Memorial Drive. Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction in the work area.
Access to all businesses will be maintained and marked with blue “Business Access” signs. City street projects show how sales taxes and property taxes are funding road improvements. Tulsans are encouraged not to avoid construction areas, but to support the area businesses throughout the construction project.
This project consists of widening 81st Street from two lanes to five lanes – two eastbound lanes, two westbound lanes and a center left-turn lane. The project also includes replacement of a 12-inch waterline, sidewalks on both sides, bike lanes and stormwater drainage improvements including a new bridge over Little Haikey Creek.
The City of Tulsa has contracted with Becco Contractors Inc. for this $13,875,000 Improve Our Tulsa project. Completion of the project is scheduled for fall 2022.
