Muncie Power Products, INC. set to expand their business at Peoria-Mohawk Business Park

February 8, 2018 - Tulsa leaders announced today that Muncie Power Products, INC. will build a new facility at the Peoria-Mohawk Business Park and be the first business to locate in the Business Park.

Located at Peoria and 36th Street North, the Peoria Mohawk Business Park is comprised of 120+acres of land that represents the cornerstone of planned redevelopment efforts in North Tulsa.

Made possible through a unique partnership between the City of Tulsa and George Kaiser Family Foundation (GKFF), the Peoria Mohawk Business Park is a first of its kind effort to partner with businesses investing in the Tulsa community.

Public investment dollars approved through Vision Tulsa will be used to prepare and enhance the Business Park, positioning it to be the top industrial location in the City of Tulsa. GKFF is donating the land for this effort.

“This announcement marks an important milestone in realizing what voters approved in Vision Tulsa for the economic development of North Tulsa at the Peoria-Mohawk Business Park,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “Muncie will be the first of many businesses to bring new and accessible jobs to North Tulsa - fostering more economic opportunity and wealth creation for the community.”

Muncie Power Products, INC. is currently located in Tulsa, but their growing operation led to the decision to build a new facility and expand their company in North Tulsa.

“Muncie Power Products, INC., would like to thank the George Kaiser Family Foundation, Tulsa Regional Chamber, and the City of Tulsa for their support in acquiring this build site for facility expansion,” Ray Chambers, President & CEO of Muncie Power Products, INC. said. “We are proud and excited to be the first business located in the Peoria-Mohawk Business Park. This new facility will allow us to better serve our customers and support market demand, while also providing the best possible working conditions for all of our employees.”

“The State of Oklahoma is excited to see the significant investment Muncie is making in the City of Tulsa. The addition of a new building, automated machinery and new equipment will move the company closer to its mission of becoming a world-class manufacturer of power take-offs and fluid power components for the work truck industry,” Governor Kevin Stitt said. “Helping Oklahoma companies expand in our state is a key initiative of my administration. It is exciting to see another company increase their investment in our state – it's a testament to the business environment we have in Oklahoma.”

Future improvements for this area are already underway as the state’s first Bus Rapid Transit system, Aero Tulsa, is set to launch this summer and the Tulsa Housing Authority is reconstructing nearby Comanche Park into a mixed-use, mixed-income community, with a focus on developing a vibrant, walkable community.

“Muncie Power Products’ move and expansion to Peoria-Mohawk represents a great, first step in achieving the shared goal of increased economic opportunity in and for the North Tulsa community. GKFF is grateful for Muncie’s commitment to be a partner in this effort. This economic development project complements the efforts of other GKFF-supported organizations working in these adjacent neighborhoods like Tulsa Educare, Crossover Community Impact, Still She Rises and the Tulsa Housing Authority.

“Together, these initiatives support long-overdue community development growth. GKFF would also like to thank its partners the City of Tulsa, Tulsa Community WorkAdvance and Tulsa Tech for their continued support and integral role in ensuring both Muncie and the site’s success in serving the North Tulsa community and our entire region for years to come,” Josh Miller, Program Officer for the George Kaiser Family Foundation said.

“We are thrilled that Muncie Power Products has chosen to expand its operations in north Tulsa and invest more than $50 million in northeast Oklahoma,” said Mike Neal, president and CEO of the Tulsa Regional Chamber. “This project is the result of strong public-private collaboration, and we applaud the City of Tulsa and the George Kaiser Family Foundation for their leadership in the creation of the Peoria-Mohawk Business Park. The park is an invaluable addition to our region, and we’re confident it will continue to attract high-quality jobs to Tulsa.”

Site development of the Peoria Mohawk Business Park will cost approximately $10 million and be paid for by Vision Tulsa. The City of Tulsa will also develop a Tax Increment Finance (TIF) District to allow for additional investment and redevelopment in the North Tulsa community to ensure Muncie’s investment is only the beginning.
