The Tulsa Planning Office has launched a new tool, Neighborhood Conditions Index (NCI), to enhance neighborhoods throughout the city.
Neighborhood Conditions Index is a comprehensive report that provides data-driven insights into the unique characteristics and areas for improvement for each neighborhood in Tulsa. It collects data across nine categories: land use, housing and neighborhoods, parks and recreation, transportation, communities (civic engagement), environment and natural resources, economic development, history, culture, creativity, and public services.
Each report is produced for one of the 80 Neighborhood Statistical Areas (NSA) covering city limits.
“Every Tulsan deserves to live in a quality neighborhood. NCI reports highlight aspects of neighborhoods that are going well and opportunities for improvement,” said Susan Miller, Director of Planning. “Because reports are generated for all areas across the city, it empowers residents in every neighborhood to take on the issues they decide are most important to them.”
By comparing areas based on preselected indicators across the nine categories, residents can quickly identify areas for improvement and take action to make positive changes in their communities. Neighborhoods with room for improvement can seek more direct assistance from the City. The Tulsa Planning Office will have follow-up services with staff available to help neighborhood leaders identify some of their top priorities and provide options on some of the steps they can take.
Neighborhood Conditions Index identifies low-scoring indicators and encourages residents to proactively pursue opportunities for improving their neighborhoods. The Tulsa Planning Office will periodically gather and analyze up-to-date data to monitor progress and provide the most current assessment of conditions. New NCI reports are expected to be released every other year.
Neighborhood reports will be available for download starting Thursday, October 26, at www.tulsaplanning.org/nci. Tulsa Planning Office staff can be reached at nci@cityoftulsa.org.
