Tulsa Parks has been chosen as a grant recipient from the National Parks and Recreation Association (NPRA) and The Walt Disney Company. The grant worth $40,000 has been given to improve access to youth sports and outdoor play.
Thanks to the grant, Tulsa Parks is set to launch a new program called “Rec ‘N’ Roll.” This mobile community center is filled with different sports equipment, games, and other activities. The skilled staff will take it to underserved areas of town, including parks in areas with no community centers and housing developments, among others. The goal of the program is to provide recreational opportunities to more kids.
“By providing a mobile community center with all the necessary equipment, we hope to make it easier for families to access quality programming and encourage the development of life skills like teamwork, kindness, and respect,” said Anna America, Chief of Culture and Parks Director. “We believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow and thrive, and the “Rec ‘N’ Roll” is a step in the right direction.”
The “Rec ‘N’ Roll” mobile community center will host two events at Tulsa Parks in the coming weeks.
Children ages 5 - 12 are welcome to participate in the programs.
