Tulsa has been awarded $900,000 in supplemental funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund (BRLF) program – an award that will be used to promote the production of more housing and engaging commercial districts in the city.
"Since 2013, Tulsa developers have successfully leveraged local Brownfield Revolving Loan Funds to reshape Downtown Tulsa by transitioning former office buildings into a hotel and future housing," Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum said. "This supplemental funding award from EPA will be used to promote the production of additional housing and engaging commercial districts that build on the vibrancy of our city."
BRLF provides funding to communities for cleanup and redevelopment of brownfield sites, which are properties that are abandoned or underutilized due to environmental contamination. When utilized, the brownfield program promotes economic growth, creates jobs, and promotes sustainable development.
"This funding is a testament to our commitment to revitalizing our city and creating a sustainable future for our residents," PartnerTulsa Executive Director Kian Kamas said. "We are excited to continue our work with the EPA and local developers to make Tulsa an even better place to live, work, and play."
Some of the brownfield sites that are now vibrant developments include places like USA-BMX, Hyatt Place Downtown, Guthrie Green, BOK Center, Peoria-Mohawk Industrial Park, Dust Bowl, Tulsa County Juvenile Justice Center, the Sonic at 48th&Memorial, Eugene Field Housing Development, & more.
