For the final few months of the street widening project on South Yale Avenue between East 81st Street and East 91st Street, two-way traffic will be able to travel on new pavement for the entire mile in the lanes that will be the northbound lanes when the widening project is complete. Completion of this project is anticipated for June 2024.

The fourth and final phase of construction is in progress. The final two retaining walls have been completed, for a total of 12 retaining walls in the project. Work continues on the new 85th Street entrance into Brookwood. Other remaining elements of the project are the southbound permanent pavement on the west side, raised medians and landscaping.

South Yale Avenue between East 81st Street and East 91st Street is being widened from a two-lane road to a six-lane road with concrete 9 inches thick and 6-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides. The six lanes will be divided in half by a raised, landscaped center median with dedicated left-turn bays.

Benefits of this new road include the following:

The stormwater drainage system capacity on this mile of Yale Avenue has been expanded to accommodate a 1 percent chance of flooding in any given year. Pipe sizes have been increased to up to 36 inches in diameter.

A new waterline main has been installed on the east side of Yale, between 12 inches and 16 inches in diameter. New 8-inch laterals have been installed connecting to the neighborhood systems. A small amount of sanitary sewer has been installed near Signal Hill to accommodate a retaining wall.

The City of Tulsa has contracted with Becco Contractors Inc. for this $29,257,000 Improve Our Tulsa project.
