A street rehabilitation project to improve South Sheridan Road between 91st and 101st Streets is expected to start soon.
Largely, the project consists of three main components, which will start at the end of September and last up to 150 days.
Project details include:
-
Milling, patching, and overlaying the existing roadway with asphalt
-
Extending and connecting sidewalks
-
Pedestrian/bicycle improvements
While some traffic alterations will occur during this project, the City is working to mitigate the impact so that most construction items take place outside of school drop-off/pick-up and rush hour times, as well as larger items being completed when school is out.
Safety elements that will be added along South Sheridan Road at the at the Creek Turnpike include:
-
Construction of a wider sidewalk on the east side, with the construction of a concrete wall to protect those on the sidewalk
-
Construction of two islands in the middle of South Sheridan Road to serve as protective barriers for people as they cross
-
Installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at both crossings
-
Construction of an additional crosswalk, along with lane striping and signage
This $1.2 million Improve Our Tulsa project is a precursor to two future projects in the area:
-
Widening of South Sheridan Road between 91st and 101st Streets: While the design work for the future widening project for South Sheridan Road between 91st and 101st streets is currently funded, funding for right-of-way, utility relocations, and remaining construction costs for that project will have to be incorporated in a future, voter-approved funding package.
-
Widening of 101st and Sheridan Intersection: Tulsa voters have approved $12 million through Improve Our Tulsa 2 to expand the intersection at 101st and Sheridan. Preliminary design work is underway and construction of that intersection could start in 2027.
The City will provide updates on traffic changes as the project progresses.
