The City’s Streets and Stormwater crews will begin a special collection for green waste only on Monday Aug. 14 for residents affected by the midtown tornado Sunday.
Mayor G.T. Bynum has requested additional funding from the Tulsa Authority for the Recovery of Energy (Tulsa’s refuse policy-making board) to help cover costs associated with waste removal efforts. TARE plans to meet Thurs., Aug. 10.
The City of Tulsa will make one green waste sweep at no cost for residents between Harvard to Sheridan from 31st St. to 41st St. and Harvard to Mingo from 41st St. to 51st St.
The City expects the special green waste collection will take approximately two weeks and residents within the boundary area should have their green waste at the curb for collection beginning Monday, Aug. 14.
City crews will begin to work from both the east and west boundaries of the collection area and work toward the center of the boundary area.
City staff will work six days a week, Monday – Saturday from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. until the sweep of the boundary area is complete.
Green waste must be cut into bundles less than eight feet long and 18 inches in diameter. Green waste should be within four feet of the curb and residents must avoid placing green waste near utilities and fire hydrants. The City cannot pick up green waste from the curb if it is contaminated with other debris.
Residents near the affected area that do not fall within the identified boundaries and believe they should qualify for the special green waste collection can call (918) 596-9777 and a supervisor will assess the situation.
Residents that called for a bulky waste service to dispose of green waste within the boundary area will now be covered within the special green waste collection.
