Technology Helping Officers Respond to Crimes As They Happen

Today, the City of Tulsa and the Tulsa Police Department announced the grand opening of the Real Time Information Center (RTIC) at Tulsa City Hall.

A significant milestone in the City's commitment to enhancing public safety, RTIC is helping officers in the field respond to incidents as they happen.

“The Real Time Information Center is already helping our officers more quickly and accurately respond to incidents as they happen,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “This is a major leap forward that empowers our law enforcement agencies and City departments to collaborate seamlessly and respond swiftly to emerging challenges.”

RTIC is a cutting-edge command center equipped with advanced technology and dedicated professionals who monitor and respond to incidents in real time. By leveraging the power of data-driven insights and modern communication systems, RTIC transforms how TPD operates and collaborates with other City departments, ensuring a safer and more efficient city for all residents.

“Men and women in the Tulsa Police Department diligently worked to position our department for future law enforcement challenges,” Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said. “The Real Time Information Center is the hub of future innovations for law enforcement designed to keep officers and our community safe.”

Key Benefits of the Real Time Information Center:
1. Enhanced Public Safety: RTIC serves as a central hub for monitoring and analyzing data from various sources, including surveillance cameras, emergency calls, social media, and other sensors. This holistic approach provides law enforcement and City officials with real-time situational awareness to proactively address emerging issues and prevent crime.
2. Improved Emergency Response: RTIC facilitates seamless coordination and information sharing among different City departments, including TPD, TFD, transportation authorities, and more. By breaking down silos and fostering collaboration, RTIC enables faster and more effective responses to emergencies and critical incidents.
3. Community Engagement and Transparency: RTIC plays a pivotal role in strengthening the relationship between TPD and the community. RTIC uses numerous multimedia platforms to disseminate vital information, engage with residents, and provide real-time updates with active incidents. Additionally, RTIC has partnered with Flock Safety to provide a license plate reader transparency portal for public access found at https://transparency.flocksafety.com/tulsa-ok-pd. This transparent approach will foster trust, improve communication, and promote community involvement in public safety initiatives.
During its early operational period, RTIC has already seen success. Recently, an RTIC Specialist located a missing person before any first responders could be dispatched. This proactive real-time response provided quick comfort to the family and made efficient use of first responders making them available for other emergency calls.
