Along with the beautiful views of nature, visitors to the Oxley Nature Center can also witness the creative process of the center’s new, artist-in-residence, Kayla Anley.

Anley, who primarily uses charcoal in her artwork, hopes her latest series will bring attention to the complex and interconnected relationship between the natural world and humans. Her current series will focus on the one percent of remaining North American grasslands and the animals and plants that once thrived in this landscape.

“I believe that by highlighting the beauty and complexity of these ecosystems, we can inspire people to take action to protect and preserve them,” Anley said.

The Artist-in-Residence Studio at Oxley will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning March 21, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., through September 2023.

Art supplies, including paper and charcoal, will be available to anyone who wishes to try their hand at wildlife sketching.

Artistic workshops for various age groups will be held on the first Saturday of each month. The first workshop will be offered April 1, from 2 – 4 p.m. Students, ages 7-12, will learn about scientific illustration. The cost is $5 for Oxley members and $10 for non-members. To register, call the Oxley Nature Center at (918) 596-9054.
