Construction of the new pool at Whiteside Park is completed, and the pool is scheduled to open in the summer of 2021.
“After not having a swimming season at Tulsa Parks this summer because of COVID-19, we look forward to starting next summer’s swimming season with a brand-new pool at Whiteside Park,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “With the Improve Our Tulsa sales tax, we are rebuilding all five City pools to be ADA-accessible with up-to-date amenities. Three pools are now complete and later this year, construction will begin on the Reed Park Pool. I want to thank the residents of Tulsa for their continued commitment to our community and parks system.”
Upon completion of the pool, the Whiteside Park water playground has reopened. Like the other Tulsa Parks water playgrounds and splash pads, it will be open for the rest of this summer season, until Labor Day. A new water playground at Ziegler Park, just completed, also will open before this summer ends.
Whiteside Pool has remained a junior pool with a maximum depth of 4 ½ feet. The pool and bath house have been rebuilt to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
This is the third pool to be rebuilt as part of the 2014 Improve Our Tulsa program. The new McClure Park pool opened in 2018, and the new Lacy Park pool opened in 2019. Improve Our Tulsa included funds to rebuild all five City pools – McClure, Lacy, Whiteside, Reed and Berry.
A contract for rebuilding the Reed Park pool will advertise in September, with construction anticipated to begin in late 2020. A new Reed Park water playground will be constructed at the same time as the pool. The new Reed Park Pool is anticipated to open in summer 2022.
