Mayor G.T. Bynum will announce that Tulsa has been awarded nearly $19.6 million in a Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency at a news conference on Monday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. The event will be held in the Window World parking lot next to South Sheridan Road, 6500 E. 44th St.
This grant will enable the City of Tulsa to relieve the stormwater drainage issues in the Fulton Creek watershed, which causes transportation problems when South Sheridan Road floods near 43rd Street.
FEMA Region 6 Mitigation Division Director Roosevelt Grant will join Mayor Bynum for this announcement. Fire Chief Michael Baker also will speak at the news conference, to address how this flood mitigation grant will improve public safety, so that emergency vehicles will not have to detour around this flooded area.
