With new playground equipment for both ages 2-5 and 5-12, Helmerich Park at 7301 Riverside Drive is scheduled to reopen by later this afternoon – Friday, March 6, after construction fencing is removed.
All construction is complete except for an asphalt seal coat on the parking lot and parking striping, both of which require warm, dry weather to install. This work will be completed in the spring.
The park has been redesigned with accessibility to every feature. The look is nautical, with pirate ship themes for the playgrounds. The two existing swing sets were remodeled and reinstalled. A new adult exercise facility has been added.
The existing park shelter has been remodeled. New park shelters with picnic tables have been added near each of the playgrounds. A new picnic area also has been added, with picnic tables and barbecue grills.
Large trees have been retained to provide shade throughout the park. New park benches and solar LED lighting also have been installed.
Funding for these park upgrades has come from the Improve Our Tulsa Sales Tax.
