This morning, Mayor Monroe Nichols, District 2 Councilor Anthony Archie, and representatives from Route 66 Village and Route 66 Main Street gathered at the Route 66 Train Depot to dedicate a new public art piece, "Stories in Steel."
Located at 3770 Southwest Blvd., the installation was commissioned through the City of Tulsa’s One Percent for Public Art Program as part of the Vision Tulsa Route 66 Train Depot project.
Created by artist Jessica Bell, "Stories in Steel" is an 8-foot-tall, $20,000 plasma-cut metal sculpture that serves as a narrative tapestry, weaving together Tulsa’s cultural evolution with the iconic legacy of Route 66. Each intricately cut steel panel reflects the people, landmarks, and moments that have shaped the city’s identity and its place along America’s most historic highway.
