In partnership with the City of Tulsa, Tulsa Area United Way (TAUW) and the Tulsa Regional Chamber, Leadership Tulsa designed a program called New Voices to increase the diversity in board leadership positions across Tulsa.
“Citizen empowerment is essential as we strive to become a world-class and resilient city. We want Tulsa to be a city where everyone with a passion to make this the best community it can be has the opportunity to do so,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “I want to thank Leadership Tulsa for developing this program, which coincides with Topic 2 within our Equality Indicators program and Civic Engagement Goal No. 2 under the New Tulsans Initiative.”
New Voices participants will have the opportunity to serve a one-year appointment on a TAUW agency board. Additionally, participants will receive and inside look at City of Tulsa authorities, boards, commissions and private for-profit boards. Those successfully completing the program will have additional help with permanent board placements.
“We see persistent gaps within leadership ranks that overlook the talents of diverse individuals. The aim of this program is to accelerate the careers and possibilities for qualified leaders by offering an exceptional learning environment and networking opportunities. We at Leadership Tulsa seek to include and develop more voices, with more skills, at more tables, to make more of an impact in our city.” said Wendy Thomas, Executive Director of Leadership Tulsa.
