All lanes are open to traffic at the intersection of East 61st Street and South Memorial Drive, as a street rehabilitation project is wrapping up at that location.
Punch list items will be completed after Thanksgiving: patching on 61st Street about 500 feet east of the intersection, and smoothing the pavement before final inspection. Only one lane will be closed at a time for these tasks.
The project included replacing all pavement at the intersection with new concrete, as well as installing new traffic signals, sidewalks and handicap ramps.
Also, a new 48-inch waterline was constructed along East 61st Street between South Memorial Drive and South 76th East Avenue. This was part of the total replacement of 48-inch waterline on East 61st Street between South Mingo Road and South Sheridan Road. The final 1,500-foot segment - between the water tanks and South Sheridan Road - will be constructed with the intersection of East 61st Street and Sheridan Road, to begin in January 2017.
The $5,894,000 project at 61st and Memorial was funded by the 2008 Third Penny Sales Tax (Fix Our Streets).
