Latex paint, once solidified, is non-hazardous and can be disposed of in your normal trash receptacle. The disposal method below is for latex paint only. Be sure to thoroughly read the paint label to understand if your paint is latex or oil-based.
Some keywords to help identify latex paint are: latex, soap and water cleanup, acrylic, non-flammable, and water listed as the first ingredient.
Words to look for on the label to help identify oil-based paints are: oil-based, mineral spirits cleanup, alkyd, flammable or combustible, and petroleum distillates.
Proper Disposal
Latex paint can be disposed of at the Household Pollutant Collection Facility or at home in your normal trash (not recycle bin). You can drop latex paint off at to the Household Pollutant Collection Facility, call (918) 591-4325 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.; Noon - 4:30 p.m.
To dispose of latex paint at home, simply remove the lid in a well-ventilated area and let the paint solidify. Depending on the amount of paint, this may take several days to weeks. Once the paint is solidified and there is no liquid left in the container, it can be disposed of in your normal trash.
