Currently, the City is operating out of an abundance of caution when it comes to its employees and their health. Your main takeaway should be to practice proper hygiene, don’t come to work if you are sick, and make sure you are getting with City Medical prior to returning to work from any type of respiratory illness or international travel/cruise. Department heads are currently working on their department-specific contingency plans for your work group as we continue to monitor this situation.

As with the flu, the COVID-19 virus is spread from person-to-person contact. With confirmed cases in Tulsa, we need to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions for the safety of our employees and community. The virus has shown to be more severe in elderly populations and those with underlying medical conditions. It’s been observed that most healthy people are able to recover after having the virus, and most cases of the virus are somewhat mild- symptoms include cough and fever, while severe cases have shortness of breath or impaired breathing.

    • Stay home.
    • Don’t come to work if you have a fever of 100° F [37.7777778° C] or greater and have signs of respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness of breath.
    • Notify your supervisor immediately if you will not be able to come to work.
    • If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are symptomatic, follow these instructions

If you have received a COVID-19 vaccine and have a reaction to it or feel ill, please call the Medical Monitoring Unit to receive feedback from City medical regarding quarantine protocol. | (918) 596-7075.

Some longstanding basic health tips can go a long way in helping prevent COVID-19 transmission.

  • Wash your hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds. Though handwashing is best, you can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (60% alcohol or greater).
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • In meeting settings, avoid shaking hands, do not meet in large groups, and keep a 6 ft. radius between you and the person you are talking to.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces with bleach-based or alcohol-based cleaning products. One way to do this is to use a bleach/water combination with a spray bottle. You can use 2 tablespoons of bleach with a quart of water to disinfect surfaces.
  • City of Tulsa employees are required to wear face masks when inside a City of Tulsa facility and when working near other employees or citizens.
  • Even if you have a mild case of respiratory illness, stay home and practice self-care.
  • It’s recommended you treat fevers, muscle aches and cough with over the counter medications.
  • You can schedule an appointment with your healthcare professional if respiratory symptoms worsen and you have impaired breathing.
  • If you come to work sick, your supervisor will send you home.
  • If you miss work due to a fever or other flu symptoms, you must report to City Medical first before you can be released back to work.
  • Call City Medical at (918) 596-7075 when you arrive so you may be escorted to a different entrance rather than the main lobby.
  • Even if you are out sick one day for a respiratory illness, you have to be cleared by City Medical before returning to work.

The CDC recommends delaying international travel until fully vaccinated. Employees who are planning to travel internationally this summer will need to be cleared through City Medical. Fully vaccinated employees will not have to quarantine when they return to the U.S., however, the CDC suggests taking a COVID-19 test three to five days after you get back. City Medical will ask for a proof of vaccination and advise the employee on the test. Employees who are not fully vaccinated will need either a negative test result, three to five days post return – with a 7-day quarantine, or no post arrival test with a 10-day quarantine.
