The City of Tulsa and the Tulsa Route 66 Commission encourage businesses along the Route 66 alignments in the city limits of Tulsa to host special events to promote and drive traffic to Route 66 in Tulsa. A Route 66 Special Event Matching Grant Program has been established to help businesses with costs of special events along the Mother Road. Businesses within the Route 66 Overlay District or defined downtown alignments may apply for their special event to qualify for this grant. With an approved contract, events eligible for the grant will be reimbursed after the event for 50 percent of the eligible costs, up to $5,000.
The Tulsa Route 66 Commission’s goals for this program are to encourage heritage tourism and economic development through special events on Route 66 in Tulsa. Events must be free and open to the public, designed to build awareness of or drive traffic to Route 66 in Tulsa, and must take place and be visible on Route 66 within the Route 66 Overlay District as established in the Tulsa zoning code map or the Downtown Parcel Map. Evaluation criteria include promotion of Route 66 tourism and economic development and adherence to Tulsa special events and zoning guidelines.
The Tulsa Planning Office will assist the Route 66 Commission’s efforts in the overall grant process. The Planning Office encourages potential applicants to review each of the grant program documents before submitting application materials. Provisions for the grant, requirements and application submission details are included in the following documents.
