Our Team

Van Driver

Our van driver is responsible for not only picking up and dropping off our participants in the A Better Way van, but the driver is also a friendly face for people experiencing homelessness who panhandle. The van driver is a recognizable face and someone participants can trust and look forward to seeing.

Case Manager

The Case Manager follows our participants as they make their journey from homelessness and panhandling to housing and recovery. The Case Manager also works to connect participants to mental health and/or substance use services, health care needs, federal and state benefits, child care, clothing, transportation and education or training, and more!

Employment Specialist

The Employment Specialist’s job is twofold: First, the specialist networks with the community and builds relationships with employers. Second, the specialist outreaches and builds rapport with A Better Way participants to assess their needs and strengths in order to make successful employment placements within our community.

Our Community Partners

While A Better Way is a unique and innovative program, there is great work taking place within the Tulsa community around addressing the issue of homelessness and panhandling that is integral to A Better Way’s success.

A Better Way’s team works to embed itself in existing teams and meetings as necessary and available. These can include, but are not limited to, community meetings, organizational meetings, interdisciplinary groups, local business owner coalitions, and meetings within the city of Tulsa.

Partnerships and referrals are also key to the success of the program and its participants. On the side of employment, we utilize current partnerships with organizations, including the Center for Employment Opportunities, Goodwill Industries, and the Department of Rehabilitative Services. As a member of A Way Home 4 Tulsa, we also utilize the partnerships of these amazing organizations:

Want to Help?

A Better Way Icons

Tulsa’s A Better Way initiative helps give people impacted by mental illness and homelessness an alternative to asking for pocket change on street corners.

This is your opportunity to offer a different kind of change – the kind that pays people for a day’s work beautifying our city.

Your generosity makes a difference by helping to give people the dignity of work as they connect to life-changing services in our community, such as shelter, housing, mental health and addiction treatment, and other more sustainable employment services.

If you would like to help, visit the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma page today.
