Cradle to Prison Pipeline - breaking the cycleRegister Now for April 21 Cradle to Prison Pipeline Summit

Registration is now open for the Cradle to Prison Pipeline Summit hosted by Mayor Kathy Taylor in Tulsa on April 21, 2009. The summit will focus on the issues of incarceration, health and mental health coverage, poverty, and education.

Featured speaker for the summit will be Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) founder and president Marian Wright Edelman and Oklahoma leaders. CDF released the Cradle to Prison Pipeline report in late 2007, outlining major social issues that many times determine outcomes for children and youth. CDF also constructed a statistical breakdown for each state. The Tulsa summit will focus on Oklahoma stats and possible solutions.

Dumping at the landfillTulsans Invited to
Free Landfill Days

Just in time for spring cleaning season, Free Landfill Days for Tulsans are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, at Quarry Landfill, 13740 East 46th Street North. The City of Tulsa and the Tulsa Authority for the Recovery of Energy will host this event and offer it as a service to Tulsans to help keep our neighborhoods clean and safe.

Participants must show a City of Tulsa utility bill or a driver’s license with an address within the Tulsa city limits in order to be admitted to the landfill.

BeGreen TulsaApril is Green Month!


Celebrate spring at one of the many events in the Tulsa area that embrace nature and “green” living during an extended Earth Week.

Be sure to attend “ReFresh Tulsa” this Thursday night, April 16. The event, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Tulsa Garden Center, will benefit three of Tulsa’s sustainability efforts: Up With Trees, a partner in ReGreen Tulsa; Sustainable Tulsa, co-host of the Greening the (918) series and active in many other efforts; and the Mayor’s Green Team, co-host of the Greening the (918) series and the Go-Green Conference set for June 20.

Celebrates Topping-Out

Last Thursday, members of the Tulsa Vision Builders, Tulsa Convention Center iron workers and the City of Tulsa were all on hand to celebrate the topping-out of the Tulsa Convention Center – the ceremony that celebrated the placement of the final and highest piece of steel on the new Tulsa Convention Center ballroom.
